Providence Youth Student Movement

Social media video project.

The piece shares the stories of two local families affected by the deportation of Lao fathers and husbands, using personal interviews to highlight how citizenship is often a matter of chance and to raise awareness about ongoing Southeast Asian deportations in Rhode Island.

The Providence Youth Student Movement (PrYSM) serves as a vital grassroots anchor for the Southeast Asian community in Rhode Island, organizing against the targeted deportation of Lao and Southeast Asian residents. By centering the voices of impacted families, PrYSM builds community power to challenge the displacement of refugees and the separation of loved ones. Through advocacy and direct action, the movement strives to ensure that every community member can live with dignity, security, and a sense of belonging.

The video has 13k views on YouTube and 14.6k on Instagram and was created to humanize these families stories to help raise money for the mothers’ trips to Laos.
